Separate filing systems, complex coordination processes and time-consuming searches. Like many others, our customer Pieris Pharmaceuticals GmbH faced these problems.
Thanks to the introduction of the new intranet on Office 365 with SharePoint Online and Microsoft Teams in combination with the Alight Digital Workplace and useful partner solutions from Solutions2Share and Sintel, these hurdles in everyday working life are a thing of the past.
Due to the strong growth of the biotechnology company in immunotherapy with its sites in Hallbergmoos and Boston, clear definitions and rules of the game became necessary in the area of internal cooperation across the various sites and, above all, with the numerous partners from industry and research.
The Microsoft cloud services already in use, with the possibilities of self-services for collaboration, offered a lot of freedom to work together quickly. However, this gave employees too many opportunities to create their own structures, resulting in numerous information silos. It was a challenge for employees to maintain an overview of the working day.
The “Pieris Intranet and Site Provisioning” project was successfully implemented with Alight as a service provider in the areas of design, realisation, training and support.
Our information is secure thanks to clear specifications and automation. Employees are quickly and easily assigned new team rooms with the right structure and IT work has been significantly reduced as a result. Alight has optimised the Microsoft cloud services to our business processes and prepared us perfectly for the new world of work with training and support.

The Pieris intranet realised with SharePoint Online with the modern hub and communication sites offers individual areas for each department, which are displayed at any time in the Alight Mega Menu. The most important news, current trade fairs and research events from the various departments and their published content appear on the intranet start page.
The definition of a common vocabulary for labelling documents, meetings and all virtual rooms represented a milestone for the clear structure and simplification of shared filing.
In addition to the use of the Alight partner product Solution2Share Collaboration Manager for the template-based provisioning of Microsoft Teams and SharePoint sites for projects, alliances and meetings, including their authorisations, two further central components were implemented by Alight: the Alight Mega Menu for structured navigation that can be accessed from anywhere and the Alight Digital Workplace to support every employee in their daily work.
Each employee now has their own personal cockpit in the form of a digitalised desk. By using task management for each group, the Digital Workplace provides a summary of all tasks, recently edited documents, important apps and the team sites and Microsoft Teams used.
All your own documents, teams and sites, apps and tasks are managed under the “ME” tab. The central component is a searchable task list with all aggregated, open tasks and appointments from Microsoft Planner, Outlook and SharePoint across all teams and SharePoint rooms.
To summarise, the extensive implementation of the Pieris intranet and the introduction of the Digital Workplace in 2019 was an exciting and instructive process.
This means that nothing stands in the way of cross-location communication and secure collaboration – including with external parties – and thus supports Pieris’ international growth.
